Steve Kerr ‘confused’ over Draymond Green fine

OAKLAND–On Sunday afternoon, the NBA announced that Warriors’ forward Draymond Green was fined $25,000 for his role in an altercation with Wizards’ guard Bradley Beal that took place in the second quarter of Golden State’s 120-117 victory over Washington on Friday.

Beal instigated the fight with Green and after the game, Beal took responsibility for the actions that led to the benches-clearing scuffle.

Prior to the Warriors’ Sunday evening showdown with the Detroit Pistons, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr was asked for his opinion on the NBA’s decision to fine Green, and he admitted he was a bit confused about the NBA’s ruling.

“A little confused,” Kerr said. “I don’t know how you get fined 25 grand for getting attacked. So I don’t know. It seemed like maybe there’s some prior reputation involved, but I haven’t really talked to the league, I haven’t talked to Bob (Myers), I just saw the news myself. It looked to me like Oubre came out there running into the crowd and caused a lot more. Draymond was the one who was attacked in the first place, so it seems like maybe those fines could have been reversed. Not my job, fortunately.”

Wizards’ forward Kelly Oubre was also fined $15,000 for his role in the altercation, and Kerr felt Green was unfairly targeted by the league while Oubre didn’t receive a stricter punishment. During the fight, Green and Beal wrestled each other to the ground and as teammates and coaches began separating the players, Oubre ran into the center of the action with a rather aggressive nature.

Green was the only Warrior to receive any form of punishment for his actions, while Beal was fined $50,000 and two other Wizards players, Carrick Felix and Markieff Morris, were each suspended one game for leaving their team’s bench.
