When the Warriors were looking to address the limited roster deficiencies they had this summer, Golden State sent a recruitment party to Los Angeles to convince a 12-year veteran to sign as the team’s backup shooting guard.
It turns out, Golden State didn’t have to go that far after all.
After a 6-3 start to the season and immediately following a 112-92 win over the San Antonio Spurs, Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr announced to reporters that second-year guard Patrick McCaw, not veteran Nick Young, would serve as the team’s primary backup shooting guard moving forward.

The 38th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, McCaw showed flashes as a rookie, and on Thursday evening, he seized the moment against a San Antonio team that looked gassed for much of the second half. McCaw scored nine points and finished with a +9 in 19 minutes, while Young didn’t score and wound up playing just three minutes.
