SAN FRANCISCO- Wednesday night the San Francisco Giants came up short again in their offense against the powerful Washington Nationals.
Starting pitcher for the Nationals Max Scherzer shut down the struggling offense when he went 9 innings with 10 strikeouts. This left the Giants only one scoring opportunity as a gust of wind robbed Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth of an easy out.
“We got a break with the one run with the RBI double by Buster or we’d probably get shut out to be honest” Bochy recalled.

Despite the Nationals not having the power of Bryce Harper to back their offense first baseman Ryan Zimmerman took Giants pitcher Matt Cain to the yard in the first inning with a 3 run hommer. This ultimately put enough space ahead of a weak Giants offense to end in a series sweep.
“We gotta get this offense going,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy explained after the game. “It’s not going to happen until we get our core guys to get their numbers where they’re supposed to be.”
Giants have been successful however if they manage to mount some offense winning 15 out of 22 games with more than 4 runs. Giants unfortunately have the worst runs average in a game in the MLB at 3.37 runs per game. The Washington Nationals have the best average runs per game at 5.55.
“You gotta score 3-4 runs on a consistent basis to win in the big leagues,” Bochy said after the game. “We’re having a hard time doing that right now.”
Giants hit the road on Friday to face the Philadelphia Phillies. First pitch is 4:05 PST.
