OAKLAND–Warriors’ legend Al Attles made a much-anticipated return to Oracle Arena on Wednesday evening, and Golden State’s fans had the opportunity to serenade him.
Attles turned 81 on Tuesday, and during the second quarter of the Warriors’ matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Warriors played a tribute video for Attles as fans broke out in song with “Happy Birthday.”
Attles was honored by the Warriors in October with a bobblehead night when Golden State hosted the Washington Wizards, but the franchise legend missed that game due to being hospitalized for unspecified reasons. Attles was released from the hospital on October 30, and Wednesday’s game marked his first game back at Oracle Arena.
After an 11-year career as a player with the Warriors, Attles became a championship coach, leading Golden State to a championship in 1975. On Attles’ bobblehead night, Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr paid tribute to Attles by wearing a 1970s-themed suit.
