Two days before the trade deadline and we have our first report regarding the Warriors’ interest in a notable NBA name. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.
That’s what ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported in his trade deadline column on Tuesday, that included a nugget about the Warriors reaching out to the Detroit Pistons regarding the availability of guard Avery Bradley, a two-time All-Defense selection. The conversation went ‘nowhere’ apparently, as the Warriors don’t currently have the tradable assets that would make the deal worth while for Detriot.
The Warriors are trying to beef up their bench given wobbly play from Andre Iguodala, Patrick McCaw, Omri Casspi and Nick Young. They inquired about Avery Bradley, but got nowhere, league sources say. That’s not surprising; the Warriors have little to deal beyond minimum-salaried players, second-round picks starting in 2020, and first-rounders they obviously won’t flip for bench guys.
The Warriors are looking for backcourt help off the bench, as Patrick McCaw, Nick Young, Andre Iguodala have all been less than reliable so far this season. Lowe threw out the possibility of trying to trade McCaw to the Brooklyn Nets for third-year shooting guard Joe Harris, but it is not known at this point if that deal has been discussed.
In addition to McCaw, JaVale McGee has also reportedly been on the trading block for at least a month, and could be moved as the Warriors currently have more centers than they know what to do with.
