49ers work out UCLA tackle, Florida State pass rusher [report]

The 49ers worked out UCLA offensive tackle Kolton Miller and Florida State pass rusher Josh Sweat this week, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Miller, a Roseville native, is projected as a 2-3 round draft pick and is one of the tallest tackle prospects in the draft at 6-foot-8. Height is actually one of the reasons that Miller is not considered a first-round talent, as scouts are concerned about Miller’s ability to lower his pad level and play with a stronger base. Miller was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2017, and started all 13 games as a junior.

Miller set a record at the NFL Scouting Combine as the only tackle to broad jump 10 feet, 1 inch.

Sweat is also projected as a 2-3 round prospect, and is a physical specimen in his own right at 6-foot-4, 251 pounds. Sweat’s ideal position is as an edge rusher and many scouts believe he has the tools to become a “decent NFL starter,” but knee injuries during both high school and college have largely knocked him out of first round consideration. Sweat was at one point the number one high school recruit in the country.

The 49ers had formal meetings at the combine with both Miller and Sweat according to Barrows.
