Since 1975, the award has been given out annually by the Pro Basketball Writer’s Association to the NBA player, coach, or trainer who makes the biggest impact and service to the community. A member of the Warriors has never won the award. LeBron James won the award last year in large part for opening up a new public school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
In November 2017, Durant invested $10 million in the Durant Center that will help kids from the area of Washington D.C. he grew up in attend college. Durant also donated $3 million to the University of Texas, his alma mater, in January of last year.
