Quinn Cook officially signed his new multi-year contract with the Warriors Tuesday, locking him in as a member of the team through at least the 2018-2019 season.
When speaking to reporters Tuesday morning before the Warriors’ final regular season game against the Utah Jazz, Cook described what signing the contract meant to him.
“It’s a dream come true and thankful for the opportunity. I’m just humbled,” Cook said, according to Mark Medina of the San Jose Mercury News. “It’s just more motivation for me to help this team out as much as possible. I know they believe in me. It’s more motivation to get better as a teammate and keep growing.”
Cook, the first two-way player to sign a full-time NBA contract, has played exceedingly well since his most recent call-up from the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. Since he has now signed the contract, Cook is officially on the Warriors’ 15-man NBA roster and is eligible to play with the team in the playoffs.
Despite his impressive play over the past couple weeks, Cook still wants to improve his game.
“I want to keep getting better. Keep living in the moment, staying ready and staying solid,” Cook said. “Keep staying consistent and not just playing well over a 10-game span. Make it 20 games. Make it 30 games. Be a consistent pro. Keep getting better and learning from all of these guys like I’ve been doing.”
Through Cook still wants to continue to improve his game, he appreciates the newfound stability his new contract affords him.
“It’s good to have some security,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Warriors for taking a chance on him and electing to bring him into their organization as a two-way player for the 2017-2018 season, and hoped his permanent roster spot would enable him to learn even more than he did as a two-way player.
“Even when I was on two-way [deal], I was just thankful to be a part of this organization,” Cook said. “Now I’m on a guaranteed deal. It’s a dream come true. I’m thankful because I get to learn even more now.”
