Bochy on offensive struggles: ‘If we have to juggle things, that’s what we have to do’

SAN DIEGO — With their 5-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Friday night, the San Francisco Giants have failed to score more than one run in seven of their first 13 games. This rate of run production is by no means sustainable and Bruce Bochy understands that, when the time comes, he’ll need to make some changes to his lineup.

“I think if you look at how the season has gone, we’ve been pretty good or it’s been a tough go,” Bochy said. “I think there’s been seven games where we’ve scored one run of less. So, that’s not going to work.

“If we have to juggle things, that’s what we have to do.”

Although the Giants rank No. 12 in the major leagues with a .241 team batting average, they are batting .170 (16-for-94) with runners in scoring position.

Some, such as Buster Posey (.375 BA, 2 HR) and Joe Panik (.295 BA, 3 HR), are off to a hot start. Others, specifically Evan Longoria (.163 BA, 13 SO) and Hunter Pence (.220 BA, 12 SO), have yet to find their stride.

“Obviously, these are things we’re talking about,” Bochy said. “It’s not one guy, really. We’ve got three or four guys who are still trying to find it in the early go.”

Nonetheless, the season is only 13-games old, not old enough for Bochy to make any serious changes to the lineup.

“You’ve heard me say this before, we can shake things up, but in the early-going, we’re still early in the season,” Bochy said. “I want to stay somewhat consistent, here, with our lineup. If somebody gets hot, really hot, then we’ll move him. But that’s not the case right now.”
