Warriors guard Stephen Curry hoped to prove his head coach Steve Kerr wrong by recovering from his sprained MCL injury in time for the first round of the NBA playoffs, which Kerr had said would be an impossibility.
However, Curry was unable to do so, spending the entirety of the first game of the Warriors’ playoff run on the team’s bench in street clothes.
He was, however, seen going through warm-up drills before the game.

In a statement released by the Warriors Saturday, the team noted that Curry “has made steady functional progress” and continues to progress in his recovery. The team also noted that he will be re-evaluated in one week.

Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania previously reported that Curry was targeting a return sometime during the Western Conference Semifinals. With Curry being re-evaluated in a week, he will miss at least at least three playoff games, as Games 2 and 3 of the Warriors’ series against the San Antonio Spurs are on Monday and Thursday respectively.
The Curry-less Warriors defeated the Spurs, who were without the services of superstar forward Kawhi Leonard, 113-92 Saturday at Oracle Arena.
