Williamson relives home run, breaks down changes to swing

SAN FRANCISCO — It seems like Brandon Belt isn’t the only Giant who is on fire.

Mac Williamson ignites the Giants offense with a 2 run homer in the 6th leading to a 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals. With only four starts under his belt this season Williamson has already earned his keep crushing not one, but two home runs that have given Giants the much needed offensive edge.

“I hit it well but you never know here in AT&T,” said Williamson. “I came out of the box because you never know, I want to make sure I was up on three if it didn’t”

However, this change didn’t come over night. Williamson has been refining his swing all spring. When outfielder Huner Pence was taken out of the lineup with a sprained thumb Williamson finally got his chance so show off all his hard work.

“I added a leg kick and I lowered my hands, and a few other things ,” said Williamson. “In doing so it’s allowed me to be more consistent with my timing and be on time more often.”

Williamson wasn’t totally content though saying that players are always adjusting to each other. He also attributed his hitting to creating the best possibility of success and capitalizing on pitches thrown in the zone.

“You’re trying to create the maximum room for error. I mean hitting is not easy and the longer the bat can be in the zone the greater chance you can give yourself to make contact with the ball.” said Williamson. “ The better the results [come from] the quicker you’re in and out of the zone and you have to be perfect every time and I’m not good enough to do that. Im just trying to create that length and room for error.”

With Pence injured and hitting .172 the Giant’s might consider keeping the red-hot Williamson up for awhile longer.
