SAN FRANCISCO – If there’s one thing to be learned from the San Francisco Giants’ 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, it’s that everyone — even major leaguers — make mistakes.
The frame after the Giants regained the lead over the Dodgers, Gorkys Hernandez tracked down a fly ball off the bat of Chris Taylor.
As the runners on first and second — Kyle Farmer and Corey Seager — returned to their bases, Hernandez temporarily thought that was the final out of the inning. He put his head down and started jogging back to the dugout.

“I was screaming, believe me,” Bruce Bochy said. “I was yelling. He seemed pretty excited, thinking it was the third out. Crawford or someone must’ve been yelling because he did pick his head up.
“That could’ve been huge. Because if he doesn’t regroup there, those runners advance another base and you have the tying run at second base.”
Fortunately, Hernandez heard the cries from his teammates and threw the ball back to the infield before the runners took advantage of his mistake.
“Yes,” Hernandez said when asked if he forgot how many outs there were. “It’s funny. I made a mistake, but nothing happened there. When I got to the dugout, everyone was like, ‘now there are three outs.’
“It was pretty funny,” Hernandez added. “It was the first time it happened to me, but I’ll try to never let it happen again.”
