We have seen fans reach over the railing to catch foul balls far too many times, but grabbing players may be a new one.
With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning of San Francisco’s 9-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon, a Giants fan tried to grab the arm of Gerardo Parra off a Joe Panik double down the line. The fan seemed to realize it was not a good idea midway through the act, pulling his arm back. Parra looked at the fan in bewilderment and tried to track down an umpire’s attention by calling for ‘time.’
The double was part of a three-run inning that tied the game at five runs apiece after Gorkys Hernandez followed Panik’s double with a single. The Giants later went down 7-5 and regained the lead at 8-7 entering the bottom of the ninth inning. But Giants reliever Sam Dyson was unable to preserve the win, allowing a DJ Lemahieu two-run homer to ultimately seal the Rockies victory, 9-8.
