The new deal keeps Durant in the Bay for at least his third season as a Warrior. It has been reported that Durant’s deal contains a player option for the second year, enabling him to become a free agent once again in 2019. Durant will be eligible for the designated veteran supermax extension starting in 2019, which would enable him to sign with the Warriors for a greater rate than any other NBA team at over $40 million per year over five years.
With Durant’s signing, all five of the Warriors’ 2017-2018 All-Stars are under contract. Free agent center DeMarcus Cousins was reported to have signed his one-year mid-level exception contract with the team in Las Vegas Friday.
Klay Thompson and Cousins are expected to join Durant as free agents in 2019.
