Buster Posey was knocked out of Friday’s game in concerning fashion, leaving an inning after taking a foul ball off his mask in the bottom of the second. Posey told first-base coach Jose Alguacil that he wasn’t feeling well after hitting a single in the third inning, and was promptly removed from the game “to be watched for concussion symptoms,” according to the club.

After the game, manager Bruce Bochy said that Posey was lightheaded but that he was feeling better. On Saturday, Bochy provided an encouraging update on Posey’s status, saying the catcher was “feeling great” as he continues to go through the concussion protocol. Bochy said if Posey is cleared, he would play first base on Sunday.
“We are really optimistic how he feels right now, but he’s got to go through this,” Bochy said. According to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, Posey will take batting practice and then re-take concussion tests before Saturday’s game.

If Posey passes tests, he would play first base tomorrow, Bochy said.
