We already detailed how Thursday’s shocking trade involving Kristaps Porzingis could affect the Warriors this offseason, but it may also have another short-term impact. If the New York Knicks buyout the contracts of the newly acquired DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews as they are expected to do, there would be mutual interest between Golden State and Matthews, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Matthews, 32, is having a nice bounce-back season with Dallas after a couple down years following an Achilles tear in 2015. The wing is averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting 38 percent from downtown in nearly 30 minutes per game this season. Matthews has been known throughout his career to be one of the better wing defenders in the league.
Matthews would fit in perfectly off the Warriors bench. Other than Andre Iguodala, Golden State currently only has one true wing reserve in Alfonso McKinnie, who lacks playoff experience.
The Warriors would also reportedly be interested in Jordan, but it’s unclear at this time if there would be mutual interest.
