Before Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals tipped off on Tuesday evening, the discussion surrounding the most anticipated series of the season didn’t have anything to do basketball. The referees were the story of Game 1, and the day after only exacerbated things.
The Rockets’ believed the refs missed a number of calls in Game 1 and alluded to it afterwards. That was followed by two reports that the Rockets also believe the officials cost them a birth in the NBA Finals last year, and that the team put together an exhaustive audit of the officiating in that game and presented it to the league office.
In a refreshing twist, the refs were not a topic of discussion after Game 2, in part because players and coaches on both teams cut down their on-court complaining significantly. Draymond Green, of all people, acknowledged the ridiculousness of the previous two days in his postgame presser, and even called the talk and complaining about the officiating “embarrassing.”
Not everyone was a fan of Draymond’s postgame comments. Mike Greenberg of ESPN responded to the video of Green’s answer on Instagram, pointing out that Draymond often complains to the refs, making this “a strange position to take.”
Draymond wasn’t going to let that sit, and took the opportunity to let Greenberg know what he thinks of Greenberg’s ESPN show, “Get Up.”
Green responded with: “(Mike Greenberg) you are entitled to your opinion. However, this was less about players complaining on the floor and more about your boring ass show has spent the last two days speaking about fouls and not 1 X or O. But that doesn’t seem to be your strong suit, so proceed….”
