At about 4:10 p.m. on Friday, Larry Baer addressed the Giants’ team for the first time since his return from suspension.
The Giants CEO, who was suspended three-plus months without pay after a video showed him in a public altercation with his wife, “just wanted to talk to the fellas for a little bit,” Bruce Bochy said.
“That’s really all I’m going to say. He wanted a few minutes, the first time he’s had a chance to address them. So he just spent a few minutes with them.”
Bochy did not divulge anything further about the meeting between team and Baer, who was reinstated Tuesday. The Giants had been on the road until Friday’s series opener against the Cardinals at Oracle Park.
“While my time away has been difficult on many levels, it has allowed me opportunities for introspection and, with the help of some wonderful people, growth,” Baer said in a statement upon his return. “I’ve been able to step back and take stock of myself as a person and as a leader. I am wiser for it, and the work continues. The journey of self-discovery, like so much in life, is ongoing and never-ending.”
Brandon Crawford was in the starting lineup for the first time since Saturday. He had been dealing with a hamstring issue.
Asked if the past five days, in which the Giants have gone 4-0, have made him reconsider retiring, Bochy livened up.
“Yeah!” he said. “If I knew we were going to get 10 runs a game or close to it, I’d do this for a lot longer.
“But all kidding aside, I’m good with [retiring].”
