‘A little concern’ for Brandon Crawford as another Giants injury crops up

PHILADELPHIA — On the same day Alex Dickerson was placed on the injured list, the Giants removed Brandon Crawford from a game after a dive.

Bruce Bochy said “there’s a little concern” with Crawford, who dove for a ground ball in the second inning of Thursday’s 10-2 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, couldn’t make the play and came up with a “jammed” shoulder.

“It was getting a little sore,” Bochy said after lifting his shortstop in the fourth inning on a double-switch. “That’s why I took him out. We’ll see how he’s doing tomorrow.”

Crawford also was playing the wait-and-see game, but did say this sort of injury has not happened to him much.

“More of an impingement, bruise,” he said, asked if he thought he would require an MRI.

Kevin Pillar crashed into the center-field wall trying to make a home run-robbing play in the fourth inning and was on the ground for several minutes as the Giants training staff looked at him.

“He may be sore tomorrow,” Bochy said. “I’ll check on him. That’s the norm when you get a pretty good charley horse.”

Even down 10-2, Bochy did not want to spare his bullpen and bring Pablo Sandoval to the mound.

“[Sam] Coonrod hadn’t pitched in a while,” Bochy said. “… Little different now, we got [Evan] Longoria down, I don’t want to risk losing Pablo.”
