On Friday afternoon Scooter Gennett was activated. On Friday evening he’ll get his first start as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
Gennett is batting sixth and starting at second base for San Francisco’s series-opening game vs. the Rockies. Gennett was acquired in a trade with the Reds on Wednesday, and is expected to be Joe Panik’s replacement. Panik will begin Friday’s game on the bench.
When healthy Gennett is one of the better second baseman in the majors, posting a .310/.357/.490 slash line with 23 home runs last year in an All-Star season. He’s been relegated to just 21 games this season as he dealt with a groin injury, but is expected to be healthy.
Steven Duggar is also back in the starting lineup after being called up on Friday, after Alex Dickerson was sent to the 10-day IL with an oblique strain.
