Mauricio Dubon will suit up for the big-league Giants for the first time.
As a newcomer, he won’t be alone.
The Giants made a flurry of moves Tuesday, with an Aug. 27 game at Oracle Park taking the hue of a Sept. 1, expanded-roster matchup.
Tyler Rogers, a 28-year-old righty reliever with a sidearm delivery, will suit up in the majors for the first time. It’s been a long journey for the 2013 10th-round pick, who had a 4.21 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 62 innings at Triple-A Sacramento — the ERA a feat this year in the PCL.
Joey Rickard, who had a cup of tea with the Giants earlier in August, is back. He last played Aug. 15.
In conjunction, the Giants placed Trevor Gott on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow strain a day after he left the game with a trainer, his arm clearly bothering him. Abiatel Avelino was optioned to Sacramento following his running a Ron Wotus red light and being thrown out at the plate. And, most surprisingly, the Giants waived Scooter Gennett, who had slashed .234/.254/.391 in 21 games since the deadline trade.
That clears a route for Dubon to see some time in the infield. Gott’s injury paves the way for Rogers, and Rickard, a righty, can fill in in an outfield that has been missing Mike Yastrzemski, who has a bruised left hand, and is trying to rest Alex Dickerson against lefties.
