Giants announce their Sept. 1 call-ups

The Day 1 reinforcements are here.

The Giants called up four prospects from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, upon the rosters expanding Sept. 1. Welcome back Aramis Garcia, Conner Menez and Chris Shaw. And welcome Burch Smith, whom the Giants claimed from Milwaukee.

Garcia has been up and down this season and will help as a third catcher. Menez, too, has gotten his feet wet at the major league level.

Shaw is the most intriguing call-up, a big power bat who plays left field and first base and who fell flat in his debut last season. The Giants sent him all the way back to Double-A Richmond to begin this year, and he’s hit 28 homers between Double- and Triple-A, showing the discipline the Giants asked of him.

Smith, a 29-year-old righty reliever, had a 4.20 ERA in 15 innings with Sacramento and saw time as a big-league Brewer this season.

The Giants will keep several prospects in Triple-A — including Jaylin Davis — until the PCL playoffs are finished.
