One pitcher in, one pitcher out.
The Giants claimed Ricardo Pinto from the Rays on Friday and sent the righty to Triple-A Sacramento. They also announced Trevor Gott’s season is over, moving him to the 60-day injured list.
Pinto, 25, came up with Philadelphia and spent most of his season with Tampa’s Triple-A affiliate, typically out of relief but also getting six starts. He pitched to a 4.23 ERA with 111 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings before debuting this season on Aug. 31. He made two appearances and gave up four runs in 2 1/3 innings before the Rays cut ties. With the many relievers the Giants called up as major league help, extra depth at Triple-A will help.
Meanwhile, the Giants had been hopeful Gott could return this season after going down Aug. 26 with a Grade 1 strain of his flexor and sprain of his UCL in his right (throwing) elbow. The plan had been to shut him down for two weeks — which would be until Sept. 9 — and see how he recovered afterward.
