The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed WR Deontay Burnett to the team’s practice squad and released WR Malik Henry from the practice squad.
Burnett (6-0, 186) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Tennessee Titans as an rookie free agent on May 11, 2018. He was waived by the Titans on September 1, 2018, and later signed to the New York Jets practice squad on September 3, 2018. Burnett was promoted to the Jets active roster on October 20, 2018, appeared in five games (one start) and registered 10 receptions for 143 yards (14.3 average). After spending training camp with the Jets, he was waived on August 31, 2019.
A 22-year-old native of Gardena, CA, Burnett attended the University of Southern California where he appeared in 39 games (17 starts) and registered 152 receptions for 1,897 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a junior in 2017, he appeared in 14 games (12 starts) and finished with 86 receptions for 1,114 yards and nine touchdowns, earning Second-Team All-Pac-12 honors.
Henry (6-0, 190) originally signed with the team as an rookie free agent out of the University of West Georgia on May 3, 2019. He was waived on August 31 and signed to the team’s practice squad the following day.
