There’s help on the way, coming at the right time.
A 49ers defensive line that has lost Ronald Blair, Damontre Moore, D.J. Jones and Jullian Taylor for the season will be adding defensive tackle Earl Mitchell on Tuesday, according to The Athletic. The 32-year-old will add some depth to an inside unit that is fronted by Sheldon Day and DeForest Buckner.
The 2010 third-round pick of the Texans, a run-stopper, actually retired in November after getting cut from the Seahawks in training camp, but he did not take too much time off, and now he’ll be joining the No. 1 seed in the NFC and odds-on favorite to reach the Super Bowl.
Judging from his hype video, Mitchell is excited.

Mitchell spent 2017 and ’18 with the 49ers, playing in 30 games and recording 36 solo tackles, a force against the run but not against the pass.
It is unclear what the corresponding move is.
