MLB mock drafts are here: The first look at who Giants could select

The MLB draft will be held this summer. When? How? Where? How many rounds? We’ll find out.

Originally a 40-rounder from June 10-12 in Omaha, the post-coronavirus draft likely will take place in either June or July and will be between five and 10 rounds, almost assuredly virtually. There are no college or high school games to scout, the prospects as locked away as the rest of the population.

Still, scouts can crisscross information that already had been gleaned, teams can weigh who can be signed and whom they want to pick and the Giants, selecting 13th, can enter a draft in which they have four picks within the top 68 and a chance to really overflow their system.

MLB.com unveiled its first mock draft Monday, projecting a high school outfielder from Pennsylvania would be the Giants’ top pick a year after they selected outfielder Hunter Bishop.

Austin Hendrick, a lefty who will probably wind up in the corner outfield, has normally been mocked to go sooner, so nice value find, Farhan! The swing does look nice and vicious for the Mississippi state commit.

“The raw power and bat speed are elite-level, though he was a bit mercurial over the summer,” MLB.com wrote of the West Allegheny High School product, who is known for quick hands but struggled in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup.
