It’s been perhaps maddeningly late, but the Bart train has arrived.
Joey Bart’s time is now. After 26 games, the Giants are summoning the No. 2-overall pick in the 2018 draft, a peek at the future of the team with every reason to believe the present is improved as well.
The corresponding move was not immediately known, but Chadwick Tromp has struggled at the plate, slugging .178/.188/.333 in 14 games. Tyler Heineman is a switch-hitter and would more easily complement the righty Bart.
Bart, who looked like a star in both camps with a cannon for an arm and a bat surging with power, will be an immediate boost to a resurgent offense, especially against opposing lefties.
The Giants have said for months they would like to see more development out of a player who has just 79 at-bats against Double-A pitching. But they had run out of excuses to not see what they have, and Bart is here.
