With the college football season ending in spectacular fashion on Monday, and the pro season mostly disappointing, the pressure is on the NFL this weekend to provide us with some much-needed entertainment.

Given the dire state of the 49ers, given seeing the once-proud kingdom in ruins, given Jed York’s now-legendary and profoundly depressing 2017 proclamation, “I own this football team. You don’t dismiss owners. I’m sorry that’s the facts, and that’s the case”, what are we all to do?

These days, the older generation derisively calls the new generation the “participation trophy era”, mocking today’s kids who get a trophy for just participating in sports. And then Christian McCaffrey, Stanford’s star running back, won’t even participate. No trophy for Christian!

Resting players is the NBA’s equivalent of the “safe space”, and it’s got to stop. It’s an insult to the paying customer, and in today’s NBA, that means paying a *lot*.And on top of everything else, it’s a bad look. Nobody likes bad looks.
