Steve Kerr’s future as an NBA head coach seemed to be in doubt just a few weeks ago, when complications from back surgery caused him to miss 11 consecutive playoff games. Thankfully, Kerr made his return in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, and general manager Bob Myers said that the Warriors’ head coach would be returning for at least next season.
The Giants’ recent struggles can be traced directly to their inability to put together consistent at-bats at the plate, but that doesn’t mean the team is solely focused on improving its hitting. On Wednesday, manager Bruce Bochy indicated the team is closer to having ace Madison Bumgarner on the hill as Bumgarner continues to progress from a shoulder injury suffered in late April.
Curry signed a four-year, $44 million contract in 2013, before he was a two-time MVP, and when it looked like chronic ankle injuries might derail his career. That contract is up this offseason, and Curry, 29, is now eligible for five-year, $205 million extension. According to comments made by Warriors owner Joe Lacob to the San Jose Mercury News, he’s going to get it.
Exactly five years to the day from Matt Cain throwing the 22nd perfect game in Major League Baseball history, the San Francisco Giants took the field behind an up-and-coming starter who has dominated at AT&T Park this season. To expect left-hander Ty Blach to recapture some of the magic Cain conjured up on June 13, 2012 would have been asking for the moon, but with Blach on the hill, the Giants liked their chances.
The good news? Major League Baseball finally heard Strickland’s appeal hearing on Tuesday morning, which means the Giants’ pitcher should hear a verdict soon regarding whether or not his six-game suspension will be reduced. The bad news? It’s unlikely Strickland’s suspension will be reduced by more than a game or two at most, and when he does end up serving it, the Giants won’t have much roster flexibility.
The Warriors’ title parade will begin at 10 a.m. in downtown Oakland on Thursday morning. In 2015, about 1 million people showed up for the festivities, but reports have estimated that this up to 2 million could attend.
The Warriors’ recent run of success and promise of more to come may have fans reminiscing about another Bay Area dynasty – the 1980s 49ers. With comparisons aplenty, the Dubs just need the titles to match the Niners at this point.
One thing to keep in mind, Lacob is set to make a ton of money off the new Chase Center, set to open for the 2019 season. He’s in love with this basketball team, but he’s also a billionaire who knows smart financial decisions when he sees them.
It’s been quite the decade already for Bay Area sports fans, and there’s no signs of the winning slowing down any time soon, as the Warriors seem well on their way to bringing even more titles back to Northern California.
