The 49ers head coach addresses his starters for the team’s first preseason matchup with the Houston Texans and squashes any notion that he’s in any way looking for a fight to rile up his squad.

What should have been a fun, albeit gimmicky, trip down memory lane was instead a reminder that the modern-day 49ers have everything to do with Santa Clara and nothing to do with San Francisco. And it still stings.

Last year the Texans and Redskins saw their joint practices turn into a WWE smackdown event. Will Houston bring this same chippy attitude to Santa Clara when they arrive Friday? The 49ers hope not.

Joshua Garnett and Anthony Davis are both listed with the second unit and Kelly really should give both a ton of playing time this preseason. Garnett missed a good chunk of the offseason program and Davis will have clumps of rust to shed off before Week 1.

The 49ers are looking for ordinary on Sunday against the Texans, not extraordinary. That doesn’t lend itself well to any progress on a QB decision, though.
