The first half of the Giants’ season was the most painful, torturous and unforgiving half of baseball in franchise history. And then it lasted longer than it should have.

On the same day the Giants honored their left fielder of the past, Barry Bonds, by unveiling a plaque featuring Bonds on the Wall of Fame outside of AT&T Park, San Francisco received harsh news about its potential left fielder of the future. On Saturday evening, Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy learned that rookie left fielder Austin Slater tore the adductor muscle in his right hip, which could keep Slater out of the lineup for the remainder of the regular season.

San Francisco’s offense has been subpar all season, but its early offense has been even worse. Too many times, Bruce Bochy has seen his lineup turn itself over once or twice through without putting runs on the board.

You can point to any number of miscues from the Giants’ contest against the Marlins on Saturday evening as the reason San Francisco lost. Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija chose his first inning struggles.

On a night in which the Los Angeles Dodgers won their 60th contest of the regular season, the team that was expected to provide their greatest foil in the race for the National League West crown played another meaningless game. Since starting the year with a 9-17 mark in the month of April, the San Francisco Giants have actually found a way to regress, as the club dropped its 55th game of the season on Saturday evening, a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the lowly Miami Marlins.

Barry Bonds joins 48 other former Giants in the team’s Wall of Fame. Players on the wall have to have played a minimum of nine seasons with the team, or been selected to at least five All-Star games while wearing the Giants uniform.

On a picturesque Saturday afternoon near the shores of the San Francisco Bay, the Giants unveiled the 49th plaque on the Wall of Fame adorning the front of AT&T Park. So what.

And I’m like, ‘oh I’m going to get too in front,’ and I hit like three in a row off of straight center field. The Mac is back. After Giants’ left fielder Austin Slater re-aggravated a hip flexor injury on Friday evening, San Francisco placed the rookie on the 10-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Mac Williamson from AAA Sacramento.
