Despite a strong start to his first full-length season in the majors, Ty Blach has been struggling as of late. Blach gave up a combined 15 runs across his last three starts and Friday night did not help buck that trend.

When your team is compared to the 100-loss 1985 San Francisco Giants, you know you’re doing something historic. When it’s all said and done, this year’s version of the Giants may well be the worst since the franchise moved west. If this squad had been the 1958 version, the city might have sent them back to New York.

After playing past midnight in Atlanta on Thursday night (well, Friday morning), Bruce Bochy’s ballclub endured a five-hour cross country flight back to San Francisco and didn’t land until the sun was rising. After Giants third baseman Eduardo Nunez sat out the final three games of the team’s four-game set in Atlanta this week, San Francisco reevaluated Nunez on Friday upon returning home to AT&T Park. Nunez tweaked his hamstring last week in Colorado, and returned to the lineup against on Monday in Atlanta, but the issue continued to linger all week and on Friday, the Giants were forced to place Nunez on the disabled list.

For the second time this week, the San Francisco Giants have dug into the AAA ranks and called up a relief pitcher. On Friday, the Giants announced they’ve recalled left-hander Steven Okert from AAA Sacramento and designated right-hander Bryan Morris for assignment.

Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow joined Murph & Mac on Friday and said that he was impressed with Kyle Crick’s first ever performance in a major league uniform.

If the Giants drop 100 games, it would be the first time a team with an Opening Day payroll of more than $150 million has ever lost more than 93 games. While there aren’t advanced analytics that prove deeper pockets will lead to deeper playoff runs, at the very least, outspending their peers should keep San Francisco from being this bad. Except it hasn’t.

It’s hard to imagine a worse way to lose than on a walkoff, and in the past week, the San Francisco Giants have watched their opponents’ sprint onto the field to celebrate game-winning hits on three separate occasions. For the 2017 Giants, though, there are worse ways to lose, and sure enough, they found one on Thursday evening.
