The Chicago Cubs recalled left-hander Luke Little in advance of Monday’s doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers, while right-hander Javier Assad was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Little, 24, made one appearance with the Cubs earlier this season and walked four in two-thirds of an inning. He is 3-1 with a 2.97 ERA in 38 appearances (one start) over parts of the past three seasons with Chicago.

Assad, 28, was 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA in two starts for the Cubs this season. In four seasons with Chicago, he is 14-12 with a 3.46 ERA in 72 appearances (49 starts). He gave up one run over four innings Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cubs right-hander Gavin Hollowell was brought up as the extra roster addition for the doubleheader. Hollowell had a 1.23 ERA in six relief appearances for the Cubs earlier this season.
