Another coach gone.

For the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, hitting coach Alonzo Powell showed his team that some things are just bigger than baseball. 

New Giants hitting coach Alonzo Powell joined Larry Krueger and Cody Pasby on the latest episode of The Krueg Show podcast, and shared with the guys a number of tidbits from spring training.

Together, the Giants’ new hitting coach, Powell, and their new pitching coach, Young, are charged with rehabilitating a club that finished 64-98 and a franchise that’s attempting to push further into the modern world of analytics and sabermetrics.

Despite coming off a season that saw a record-breaking number of home runs across major league baseball, Giants new hitting coach Alonzo Powell isn’t completely on board with baseball’s power revolution.

San Francisco won three World Series titles with a small-ball approach, and new hitting coach Alonzo Powell was brought in to maintain that philosophy.

We’ll soon find out how Young fares, but as the Giants overhaul their staff, no one has a more difficult challenge ahead than the team’s new pitching coach.

In the coming days, the Giants are expected to officially announce the hire of Powell to replace Hensley Meulens as the team’s hitting coach, a clear declaration that San Francisco intends to embrace the world of analytics.
