After a 2-3 start to the second half of the season, the Giants are set to kick off a four-game homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers, who lead the National League Wild Card race.
Giants fans can exhale. Brandon Belt’s injury appears to only be a hyperextended knee. Belt hurt the knee as he hustled to first base in the seventh inning of the Giants’ 3-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners Wednesday night and had to be helped off the field.
The Seattle Mariners have a reputation for being one of the best teams in baseball in one-run games. The Giants successfully refuted that reputation on Tuesday, but failed Wednesday, losing 3-2 to the Mariners in the second game of a quick two-game series.
It has not been an easy month of baseball for the Giants or Brandon Belt. Belt was shunned from the All-Star game earlier in July and has been hitting .227 this month and .071 in his last seven games. Now, Belt looks to be injured.
