Though he wasn’t pitching on behalf of the San Francisco Giants, Johnny Cueto was happy to be back on the mound on Tuesday evening at Raley Field in Sacramento for a rehab start with the Giants’ AAA-affiliate.

Chris Stratton wants to pitch every five days. And with the way he’s thrown in his last two starts, the Giants’ rookie may one day have the opportunity to do so.

Stratton’s recent success led to a relatively full group interview for the rookie following the Giants’ 2-0 win Monday night over the Milwaukee Brewers. The group then grew by one when Giants catcher Nick Hundley joined the throng.

In the past, Bruce Bochy has praised Chris Stratton’s stuff, saying that the franchise’s first round draft pick back in 2012 has the “equipment” to succeed at the Major League level, but it’s unlikely the Giants believed Stratton would assimilate so well after enduring struggles with AAA Sacramento.

Chris Stratton’s career hasn’t exactly followed a fairytale script. But on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C., Stratton authored the most memorable story of his Major League career to date, as the Giants’ rookie tossed 6.2 innings of shutout ball in his team’s victory.

Things haven’t exactly shaken out the way they’re supposed to for Giants’ rookie Chris Stratton.

Since the start of the 2017 season, the Giants have had August 5 circled on their calendar as the day they would turn back the clock.

Outside of Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner, only one member of the Giants’ pitching staff had claimed multiple World Series titles with San Francisco. Now, George Kontos will take his rings to Pittsburgh.

The 13th-year veteran will not make his scheduled start on Saturday evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and will instead be replaced by rookie Chris Stratton.

On Friday afternoon, Giants’ right-hander Johnny Cueto spoke in the visiting clubhouse at Dodger Stadium and discussed what he believes is the best course of action for him to make a return to San Francisco’s rotation.
