One start after tying his career-high in walks with six, Giants’ left-hander Matt Moore matched another career-high he hoped to avoid altogether. Moore took the hill against the Miami Marlins on Friday evening at AT&T Park and lasted just 3 and 1/3 innings as a Marlins’ lineup led by power-hitter Giancarlo Stanton roughed Moore up to the tune of 12 hits, which tied a career-high Moore set back in 2013 with the Tampa Bay Rays.

A trip to the dentist’s office. Trying to find a parking spot in a full garage. Jamming into a packed subway. All are reasonably uncomfortable experiences, yet all are scenarios that might be preferable to watching the Giants when Matt Moore has pitched of late.

After pounding out a season-high 18 hits in their 13-5 win over the Pirates on Friday night, the San Francisco Giants were held without a hit through the first five frames on Saturday afternoon at PNC Park. 24-year-old Pirates right-hander Chad Kuhl entered the contest with a 5.58 earned run average over 15 starts this season, and had not thrown more than 5.0 innings in a single start since April 18.

No starting pitcher in the National League has been worse than Giants’ left-hander Matt Moore this season. It’s a harsh reality, but Moore’s 6.04 earned run average is the highest among qualifying starters, and by far the worst mark in his seven-year Major League career.

The price of gas was $1.12 per gallon. A loaf of bread would run you 50 cents. Okay, it hasn’t been that long since the Giants last won a ballgame, but it’s been 32 seasons since San Francisco was this bad.
