This Giants thing is insane. Never has a Bay Area team collapsed from championship contender to potentially the worst team in the league so utterly, so completely, so swiftly. Or has it happened before?

Julio Teheran appears to have righted a season that had gone sideways for the projected Atlanta Braves ace. The same can’t be said for the San Francisco Giants’ struggling Matt Moore, however.

It was 1970 when Bay Area musical legend Carlos Santana released his timeless hit, “Black Magic Woman.” Nearly 50 years later, a different Santana arrived in San Francisco to record a hit of his own, and it featured every bit of black magic as the lyricist’s Latin groove.

There were plenty of fireworks on Monday, but they didn’t come at the plate. Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland exchanged blows in the 8th inning after Strickland hit Harper with a pitch. In other events, Matt Moore pitched a quality start but the San Francisco offense delivered no support in the 3-0 loss.

Moore pitched a stellar game. The lefty allowed only one run in 7.1 innings of work, striking out seven Reds in the process. Moore was the workhorse the Giants needed Saturday, throwing 120 pitches in the win.

Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow talked about the frustration of watching Moore squander an opportunity, pointing specifically to the conservative nature in which he pitched.

Matt Moore was tagged for five runs in five and two thirds innings as the Rockies have taken two of three from the Giants at home this series with the fourth game to come on Sunday.
