Giants first baseman Brandon Belt just received an award as the National League Player of the Week. His teammate, Brandon Crawford, may soon be recognized as the National League Player of the Month.

Wednesday afternoon’s Giants game ended in controversial fashion, when home plate umpire Doug Eddings called Brandon Belt out on strikes on a pitch that appeared to be outside the zone.

SEATTLE (AP) Seattle Mariners All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano was suspended 80 games for violating baseball’s joint drug agreement.

The Giants are 20-21 at the quarter pole of the season, but that should be seen as a success considering everything that’s happened.

Holland’s job was straightforward: lay down a bunt to advance the runner to second base, putting him in scoring position with one out, and the top of the lineup upcoming.

“It is an experimental thing,” Rich Waltz said. “And I think baseball will look at it, adjust as they go, and go from there.”

Finally, some good news for the Giants on the injury front.

LOS ANGELES (AP) Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was put on the 10-day disabled list with left biceps tendinitis.
