For two straight days, the Oakland A’s have packed their stadium to capacity for extra-inning games. And for the second straight day, Bay Area fans watched as the Giants fell just short of stealing a game.

On a historic night for the A’s, everything seemed to be in line for a home win. Oakland opened the game by honoring players and front office management from its 1989 World Series-winning team.

Oakland A’s fans were ready to celebrate a historic night on Saturday. In front of the largest-ever baseball crowd of 56,310 people at the Oakland Coliseum, and the largest of the 2018 MLB season, the A’s led the Giants 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning.

The All-Star break hasn’t slowed down Dereck Rodriguez. The 26-year-old rookie has been outstanding for the Giants in his first full season in the majors and Friday was no different.

The youth movement continues for the Giants. In his first game of the season in the major leagues, 24-year-old third baseman Ryder Jones teed off on A’s starter Edwin Jackson, tearing a ball high off the right-field foul pole to give the Giants a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

With a 6-2 loss to the Oakland A’s, the Giants have finished the first half of the season. The team will enter the All-Star break two games above .500 and 3.5 games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

The first half of the Bay Bridge Series goes to the Oakland A’s. A combination of great pitching and an explosive fourth inning allowed the A’s to create separation between themselves and the Giants en route to a 5-2 win. 

Don’t let Steven Duggar’s age or major league inexperience fool you. The Giants’ 24-year-old center fielder feels right at home in the big leagues and his latest performance is evidence of that.

In the first game of this season’s six-game Bay Bridge Series, the Giants can thank their pitching staff, an opposing balk, but most of all, Steven Duggar for a 7-1 win. In just his fourth game and third in the leadoff spot, the 24-year-old center fielder was involved in five of the Giants’ seven runs.

It’s not often a pitcher balks as clearly as A’s starter Edwin Jackson did Friday night. With Giants center fielder Stephen Duggar sitting at third base and shortstop Brandon Crawford at the plate, Jackson did everything but let the pitch go.
