After the San Francisco Giants made their first cuts of spring training, here’s a look at who could possibly see their names on the 25-man roster to open up the season.
In light of his past actions, Pablo Sandoval used his appearance on Murph & Mac Monday morning to apologize for the way he left the San Francisco Giants in 2014.
The decision for the Giants to bring back Pablo Sandoval midway through the 2017 season was a somewhat shocking one, considering both the way he left the club, and his massive struggles during his time in Boston. Sandoval ended up playing in 47 games for the Giants last season, and wasn’t great, finishing with a .638 OPS, after getting off to a hot start.
Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow praised the decision to bring back Sandoval when he joined Murph & Mac on Monday morning, but said he also expects the team to sign an everyday third-baseman this offseason.
On Monday morning, Giants’ general manager Bobby Evans confirmed that the franchise had exercised options on both Bumgarner and Sandoval, as Evans said that both players will be with the club this spring.
Pablo Sandoval hasn’t exactly torn the cover off the ball since arriving back in San Francisco, but over the past week, the 31-year-old native of Venezuela has picked up his pace in an effort to prove he belongs on a Major League roster in 2018.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sandoval stood by his locker in the Giants’ clubhouse and said he believes playing during the offseason will help him prepare for Spring Training.
