The five-time Pro Bowl selection will reportedly work out with the 49ers in the next few days. He was released by the Baltimore Ravens on March 8 after playing four seasons with the team. He played just eight games in an injury-shortened 2016 season.

In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived wide receiver Rashad Ross.

49ers GM John Lynch joined Pro Football Talk Live for an interview to be released later this week, and spoke at length about his discussion with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, that took place shortly after the hiring of Lynch and new head coach Kyle Shanahan .

As previously reported, the 49ers worked out former All-Pro safety Jairus Byrd on Wednesday. But Byrd isn’t the only former All-Pro San Francisco has kicked the tires on in the last few days.

Former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs’ time with the 49ers was short lived and rocky. He had only five carries during his lone season in 2012, and was eventually released for complaining about his playing time on social media.

As many predicted, former 49ers head coach Chip Kelly is making his return to college game next season. Interestingly, it will be as a studio analyst for ESPN. Kelly signed a multi-year deal with the network to appear mostly during pre-games, halftimes and in studio wraps each Saturday on ESPN2, the network announced Friday.

Per NFL rules, 49ers first-round draft pick Solomon Thomas has not been able to join the team during OTAs, until he completes his final semester at Stanford. Instead of kicking back, however, Thomas is making the most of his time away from the team, by training with future Hall-of-Fame defensive end DeMarcus Ware.

The good: Brian Hoyer has total command of the offense, there’s a stable of hungry running backs pushing Carlos Hyde, a surplus of depth on the offensive line is apparent. The defense won the day and players keep saying this scheme will allow them to play more freely.

After weeks of debate regarding his free agent status, Kaepernick is one of two quarterbacks meeting and working out with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
