Colin Kaepernick made history and headlines while courting controversy last season, for his protest involving kneeling during the National Anthem.

He becomes the third new personnel executive added by General Manager John Lynch this offseason, after Vice President of Player Personnel Adam Peters and Senior Personnel Executive Martin Mayhew previously joined the organization.

According to a report, the 49ers worked out defensive lineman Cedric Reed on Wednesday. The Texas graduate has spent time with the Dolphins and Bills in the past two seasons, but has yet to play any regular season snaps in the NFL.

The former 49ers quarterback has been the subject of countless rumors during this offseason, and the latest word from NFL.com’s Mike Silver is that the Seattle Seahawks called Kaepernick’s agent last Friday. The Seahawks reportedly have serious interest in Kaepernick as a potential backup for Russell Wilson.

Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon marks the seventh of 10 49ers draft picks who have signed with the team. The third round pick out of Colorado signed a four-year deal with the team on Friday.

On Thursday, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that the still unsigned Kaepernick has not been in serious discussions with a single NFL team regarding a contract for next season

Cantor technology has released their official point spreads for the 2017 season, and if everything goes according to their predictions, it will be a long season in San Francisco. Ben Fawkes of ESPN published the odds for Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch’s first campaign, and the the 49ers are favored in just one game this season, a week 3 Thursday night matchup at home against the Los Angeles Rams. Cantor does not include odds for weed 17, due to the wide variance that comes with the final week of the season where many playoff teams are resting players and so many players are injured and unavailable.
