With multiple reports surfacing yesterday that they have selected their next head coach, the 49ers narrowed down their list of GM candidates Wednesday morning, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

49ers beat writer Matt Maiocco reported that Arizona Cardinals VP of player personnel Terry McDonough, who San Francisco recently interviewed for their also vacant GM position, also has Shanahan as his top target for head coach.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels confirmed multiple reports Monday morning that he is electing to stay in New England next season, and has dropped out of consideration to be San Francisco’s next head coach.

At the time of posting, the San Francisco 49ers are still without a head coach or general manager. Former NFL scout Larry Krueger says the 49ers need to address the front office, but the turnaround will depend more on solving their problems personnel-wise.
