The San Francisco Giants are coming off a three-game sweep against the Dodgers, but at least temporarily, things are looking up. That’s because the Giants’ lineup won’t have to contend with former Oakland A’s ace Sonny Gray, who was scheduled to face San Francisco on Monday evening at the Coliseum.

With the trade deadline less than two hours away, it remains unclear if the Giants are going to move any big names in exchange for the prospects that they sorely need. What is clear is that at least one everyday player has been discussed in the lead-up to the deadline.

Giants infielder Eduardo Nunez was traded to the Boston Red Sox during the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Pirates. The departure was emotional for both Nunez and his teammates, who lined up in the dugout to hug him as he made his way into the clubhouse for the final time.

Shaun Anderson is the first one of potentially several new top prospects to be added to the Giants organization, as the 2016 third-round pick is now San Francisco’s 17th best prospect among MLB.com’s top 30 for the team.

Anderson is a 22-year-old former third-round pick out of the University of Florida, while Santos is just 17 and joined the Red Sox minor league system straight from the Dominican Republic. Considering that Nuñez is merely a rental for Boston with his contract up at the end of this year, it seems as though the Giants got a decent haul for the former All-Star.

Just one season removed from hitting 21 bombs in 132 games, Shaw is hitting .289 with an .847 OPS this season and nine of his 15 home runs have come since his promotion to the River Cats. Despite the hype about his power, Shaw doesn’t view himself as a classic slugger.
