Monday night’s matchup between the Braves and the Giants was the first time the National League foes squared off in Atlanta’s recently constructed SunTrust Park, but the shimmying, shaking, floating and fluttering that took place on the new playing surface were familiar sights for both clubs.
The outcome? That too was familiar. For the Giants at least.

In the top half of the fifth inning, Samardzija smoked a fastball from Rockies’ right-hander Antonio Senzatela over the right center field fence at Coors Field to give the Giants a 4-1 lead.
The Giants entered their four-game set against the Rockies this weekend with the worst offense in Major League Baseball. Then, in the span of five minutes, San Francisco lost both of its .300 hitters.

With their eighth round draft choice the Giants selected Cal State Fullerton left-hander John Gavin. The junior southpaw pitcher is a San Jose native who is 8-2 this season with a 2.67 ERA and 89 strikeouts. Gavin went to St. Francis High School and has been a die-hard Giants fan his entire life.
