The San Francisco Giants could become sellers by Major League Baseball’s trade deadline, but on Tuesday evening, the franchise entered the market as buyers. The organization added to its bullpen depth by trading for Texas Rangers’ right-hander Sam Dyson, a sixth-year veteran struggling through the worst season of his professional career.

“He’s going to come back earlier than people think. I know that they want him to have x amount of innings and appearances before he comes back. He’s doing a lot of work. He told us earlier when this [injury] happened, that he was definitely a quick healer and that he might bounce back from this and be ok. So far he hasn’t been wrong.”

Buster Posey extended his lead in All-Star voting at the catcher spot in the latest update released Monday. Posey, who has over 900,000 votes, leads second-place Willson Contreras by more than 400,000 votes.

Strong Giants offense led by Brandon Crawford went unrewarded on Sunday as the bullpen allowed four runs in four innings of relief and the Phillies beat San Francisco 9-7 to finish the series.

Christian Arroyo was demoted to Triple-A ahead of Sunday’s game to make room for Hunter Pence to be activated from the DL. Arroyo hit .192 in 34 MLB games while playing three different positions defensively.

Ty Blach was excellent for the Giants and received plenty of run support on Friday night in Philadelphia in a 9-0 win over the Phillies. Denard Span collected five hits and Austin Slater had an RBI hit in his MLB debut.

So the Giants are very close to “sell” mode even if they aren’t saying so right now. The draft is coming up June 12th, Hunter Pence is about to return to the lineup and I think the front office wants to see what happens in the next couple of weeks before pulling the plug.

The premise is dumb. The message supposedly sent doesn’t resonate, the execution of the “fight” after the pitch is the equivalent of diamond stud collared chihuahua’s barking at each other from 10 feet away, and the retaliation beaning after is less exciting than a drunk fan on the field being chased by calorically challenged mall cops.

MLB handed down a six game suspension to Hunter Strickland, and a four game suspension to Bryce Harper on Tuesday, following Harper’s charging of the mound that led to a benches clearing brawl on Monday.
