San Francisco Giants

Max Scherzer threw a complete game on Wednesday night as the Nationals completed their sweep of the Giants. San Francisco got just five hits in the game. Matt Cain allowed two earned runs in five innings.

SAN FRANCISCO – On a night with not much to cheer for if you’re a Giants fan, recent call-up OF Orlando Calixte was a bright spot on the evening. Calixte was brought-up to replace outfielder Mac Williamson and was impressive in his debut with the Giants. He went two for five, with an RBI double in the second inning and had his first major-league hit with a single off of the very first pitch he saw from Nationals’ starter Gio Gonzalez.

“I don’t know whats going to happen, I don’t.” Bochy said. “This is why we don’t have our pitchers throw at guys or start things because that’s what the other team’s going to do too. I’m glad nobody really got hurt yesterday. It’s unfortunate but hey it happened, it’s over and we’ll move on.”

After the excitement of the Memorial day fight between the Giants and Nationals it seems only right to take a look back at some of baseballs other momentous fights. Topping the list was the well known fight between Juan Marichal and Johnny Roseboro where Marichal rushed the mound bat in hand, it was Roseboro who ended up getting the business end of the bat as he left the game bleeding.

Mike Krukow said on Murph & Mac Tuesday morning that Posey has been told not to get involved in big scrums, for safety reasons. He said Posey’s teammates are aware of this as well, and won’t hold it against him.

Buster Posey is on his way to being the NL’s starting catcher at the All-Star game for the third season in a row. No other Giant infielders are in the top five of voting at their position, and no outfielders are in the top 15.

Following the game, a reporter asked Baker if he was thinking of the two players’ history before the pitch. “No. It didn’t cross my mind. I wasn’t (in Washington),” said Baker. “I watched it on TV. It was a long time ago. But like I said, in baseball you can carry grudges for a long time. I even have a couple that I’ve been carrying for years.”

Often when a batter charges the mound, the catcher is one of the first people to meet the two at the mound. That wasn’t the case during Monday’s benches clearing brawl. Posey explained his reasoning after the game.

In the 8th inning Hunter Strickland threw a fastball low and in that beaned Bryce Harper directly in the hip. Harper took offense to the pitch, and charged the mound…throwing his helmet at the pitcher before the two exchanged blows.
