Fresh off re-joining the Giants’ organization as a special advisor to the CEO, club legend Barry Bonds stepped into the cage during batting practice Sunday morning, and proved he’s still got it, blasting a number of home runs over the right field wall.

After informing him he would not make the team, the San Francisco Giants granted the release of veteran reliever David Hernandez, who was in camp on a minor-league contract.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News is reporting that Giants reliever Will Smith will undergo season ending Tommy John surgery next week, ruling him out for all of the 2017 season.

The Giants will release utility infielder Gordon Beckham from his minor league contract according to a report from MLB Trade Rumors.

Giants fans already knew Brandon Crawford was great. Coming off consecutive gold gloves and an All-Star appearance in 2015, Crawford has established himself as a bonafide star in the Bay Area, and one of the best two way shortstops in baseball over the last three seasons.

Giants outfield prospect Steven Duggar has only two seasons of professional baseball under his belt, but after his first Major League spring training, he feels like he’s mentally ready for the challenges of a big league season.

The campaign is already generating a large amount of buzz, thanks in large part to a hat swap that will be held at every event, encouraging people to trade in Giants hats for A’s hats.

Heading into the 2017 World Baseball Classic, it was evident that the United States had the most star studded lineup of any team in the tournament, with the likes of Buster Posey, Giancarlo Stanton, Adam Jones and a bevy of All-Stars on their roster. But they were lacking that same star power in one vital spot: their starting pitching. Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw were nowhere to be found, and in their place were Tanner Roark, Chris Archer and a number of solid pitchers, but certainly not the best team USA potentially had to offer.

Giants catcher Buster Posey will not be featuring in Wednesday’s final of the World Baseball Classic, but told KNBR before the game that the opportunity to represent his country for the first time is something he’s enjoyed and recommends.
