Hunter Pence and the Giants were in the final stages of authoring a dramatic Father’s Day story. But for a team that hasn’t written many fairytales or happy endings, Sunday wasn’t exactly a start.

On Friday night, the Giants ran into Minnesota Twins’ right-hander Ervin Santana. On Tuesday evening, San Francisco squared off against Kansas City Royals’ left-hander Jason Vargas. Together, the duo has 25 seasons of Major League experience under their belt, and just one All-Star Game appearance.

Exactly five years to the day from Matt Cain throwing the 22nd perfect game in Major League Baseball history, the San Francisco Giants took the field behind an up-and-coming starter who has dominated at AT&T Park this season. To expect left-hander Ty Blach to recapture some of the magic Cain conjured up on June 13, 2012 would have been asking for the moon, but with Blach on the hill, the Giants liked their chances.

6-foot-5, 250-pound grown men aren’t accustomed to taking baby steps, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise Giants’ left-hander Madison Bumgarner is making significant progress in his recovery from a shoulder sprain.

A day after rookie Austin Slater became the 10th different San Francisco player to start a game in left field this season, manager Bruce Bochy turned back to recent call-up Orlando Calixte, who suffered through his worst performance in a Giants’ uniform in Wednesday’s 6-3 loss.

Kevin Frandsen is back talking Giants baseball, specifically Ty Blach and his solid contribution to the Giants’ starting rotation. After the Giants lost their ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner to a shoulder injury sustained after falling off a dirt bike, they called on Ty Blach to fill the void. Though he has some enormous shoes to fill, he’s exceeded expectations by racking up a 4-2 record with a solid 3.24 ERA over 8 starts this season.

Ty Blach was excellent for the Giants and received plenty of run support on Friday night in Philadelphia in a 9-0 win over the Phillies. Denard Span collected five hits and Austin Slater had an RBI hit in his MLB debut.

When Madison Bumgarner went on the DL after his dirt biking accident in April, it seemed like plenty of doom and gloom was in store for the Giants. With a four-time All-Star shaped hole left in the pitching lineup, the Giants were forced to insert former fifth round draft pick Ty Blach into the starting rotation. Will it obviously hurts the Giants to not have Bumgarner out their on the mound, his injury has been giving a silver lining due to Blach’s stellar play so far this season.
